Beautiful poster depicting a waxwing, originating from the work "Natur-Geschichte der Deutschen Vögel" by C.G. Friderich. This exceptional work by the 19th-century German ornithologist was published in 1891 in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann.
In his works, Friderich combined scientific accuracy with an artistic approach, making his illustrations not only useful for researchers but also appealing to a broader audience.
The waxwing is a bird with an exceptionally elegant, silky plumage in beige-pink tones. The illustration perfectly captures its most characteristic features: the prominent crest on its head, the black mask around the eyes, and the yellow band at the end of the tail. The print also precisely depicts the unique red wax-like tips on the wing feathers, which are an ornamental detail of this species. Friderich captured the subtle beauty of this migratory visitor from the north, associated with winter visits to rowan trees.
