Rotkehlchen
A beautiful poster depicting the robin, originating from the work “Natur-Geschichte der Deutschen Vögel” by C.G. Friderich. This exceptional work by the 19th-century German ornithologist was published in 1891 in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann.
Friderich combined scientific accuracy with an artistic approach in his works, making his illustrations not only useful for researchers but also appealing to a broader audience.
The robin is a small, remarkably charming bird, often considered the unofficial king of gardens. The print faithfully captures its characteristic, stocky silhouette, resembling a small, fluffy ball. The most recognizable feature is the intensely rusty patch covering the forehead, throat, and breast, beautifully contrasting with the olive-brown upper body and light underside. The large, dark eye draws attention, giving the bird a gentle and trusting expression. Friderich's illustration, with attention to detail, presents this small insectivore in its natural posture.
We photograph each illustration in ultra-high resolution and carefully remove age spots, restoring its brilliance from centuries ago.
