Thalictrum & Clematitis
A beautiful poster depicting a collection of plants, including Filipendula vulgaris and various species of Clematis, originating from the work "Historia Botanica Practica" by Giambattista Morandi, an Italian physician and botanist who lived in the 18th century. This exceptional herbarium was published in 1744 in Milan by Petri Francisci Malatestae. Morandi was known for his precise and realistic plant drawings, and his work was one of the most important botanical works of his time. Plants featured on the poster: • Dropwort - Filipendula vulgaris • Meadow Rue - Thalictrum majus, filiqua angulosa, aut striata • Water Plantain - Plantago aquatica, latifolia • Climbing Clematis - Clematitis latifolia, dentata • Southern Clematis - Clematitis, sive Flammula surrecta These valuable botanical illustrations not only document the diversity of plant species but also showcase their distinctive morphological features, which allowed 18th-century botanists to correctly identify them. Dropwort, meadow rue, water plantain, and clematis were valued both as ornamental and medicinal plants.
We photograph each illustration in ultra-high resolution and carefully remove age spots, restoring its brilliance from centuries ago.
