Beautiful poster depicting the Eurasian Jay, originating from the work "Natur-Geschichte der Deutschen Vögel" by C.G. Friderich. This exceptional work by the 19th-century German ornithologist was published in 1891 in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann.
Friderich combined scientific accuracy with an artistic approach in his works, making his illustrations not only useful for researchers but also attractive to a wider audience.
The Eurasian Jay is one of the most colorful European birds from the crow family, often called the "guardian of the forest." The print faithfully captures its unique coloration: a cinnamon-pink body contrasting with a black tail and a distinctive, broad black mustache at the base of the beak. The most recognizable feature, perfectly captured in the illustration, is the bright blue speculum on the wing, adorned with black stripes. Friderich also precisely presented the delicately streaked crest on the head and the keen gaze of this lively forest dweller.
