A beautiful poster depicting the anatomy of the common spruce (Picea excelsa) from the work "Die Bäume und Sträucher des Waldes in botanischer und forstwirthschaftlicher Beziehung" (Trees and Shrubs of the Forest in Botanical and Forestry Context) by Gustav Hempel and Karl Wilhelm. This exceptional work was published in 1892 in Vienna and Olmütz by the publisher Ed. Hölzel, and illustrated by the painter W. Liepoldt, who created the original watercolors from which the colorful plates were made.
