Beautiful poster depicting the Bluethroat, from the work "Natur-Geschichte der Deutschen Vögel" by C.G. Friderich. This exceptional work by the 19th-century German ornithologist was published in 1891 in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann.
Friderich combined scientific accuracy with an artistic approach in his works, making his illustrations not only useful for researchers but also attractive to a wider audience.
The Bluethroat is a small yet remarkably beautiful songbird, closely related to the nightingale. The print focuses on the male's most spectacular feature – the intensely blue "bib" on its throat and chest, adorned with a distinctive spot known as the mirror. The illustration faithfully captures the color details, including the rusty and black band separating the blue from the light belly and the subtle brown-gray upper body. Friderich sensitively captured the grace and delicate silhouette of this species, often hiding in dense thickets.
