Auerhuhn
A beautiful poster depicting the Black Grouse, originating from the work "Natur-Geschichte der Deutschen Vögel" by C.G. Friderich. This exceptional work by the 19th-century German ornithologist was published in 1891 in Stuttgart by Julius Hoffmann.
Friderich combined scientific accuracy with an artistic approach in his works, making his illustrations not only useful for researchers but also appealing to a broader audience.
The Black Grouse is a majestic bird, one of the natural symbols of the Karkonosze Mountains, where this species is under strict protection. The print splendidly showcases the male in his mating plumage—shiny black feathers with a metallic, blue sheen contrasting with the white elements of the wings and the bright red wattles above the eyes. The most distinctive feature of its silhouette is the unique lyre-shaped tail with outward-curved feathers. Friderich's illustration perfectly captures the pride and strength of this rare bird, highlighting its exceptional value to the mountain nature.
We photograph each illustration in ultra-high resolution and carefully remove age spots, restoring its brilliance from centuries ago.
